Last time Opera was in the news its Chinese owners were running payday loan scams in Africa https://techcrunch.com/2020/01/22/opera-and-the-firm-short-s...

do people actually use this? i mean, sure, it seems like it bundles features and workflows that “gamers” would be into, but i’m genuinely curious if the juice is worth the squeeze.

it just seems like it’s pandering to the intended audience and not really necessary.

I have used it quite a few times because I have a quite a low spec PC, and being able to limit the browser performance + watch a video with picture-in-picture while playing games is very nice.

I recently got back into it, downloaded it on my phone, and will probably switch over to it on my personal PC too (on phone I switched to it because built in adblocker + faster and less wonky than FF for me).

adblocker + performance control + nice aesthetics + integrations + easy sending stuff from phone to PC and back is kind of a sweet spot for me - though it might not be for everyone. Or at least it seems like it

I’m familiar with a few twitch steamers that use it, they swear by the limiters.

I actually have it installed on my work PC, which has Windows, and would personally use it daily if there was a Linux build out. It's beautiful, and it's doubly appealing to me as an existing Opera user.

One thing of note, OperaGX has an amazingly raucous/boisterous/riotous twitter account. (couldn't quite find the adjective I was looking for)

Seems like a weird thing to lean into, but hey.. to each their own.

its bloated chinese spyware isnt it
