Also curious of this

Why not chat as well?

The de facto default chat software is probably WhatsApp, or perhaps Telegram if your group of people lives in the german alternative scene (or, placed from germany, perhaps more eastern countries?).

But default group chat could well be Discord, not formerly Slack(?), any more.

How many acre-feet does San Diego consume yearly?

I'm only somewhat versed in networking and proxies - how is this different from something like SquidGuard?

The NFT had nothing to do with the takedown. According to the Vanced team, it was taken down because the logo they used was too similar to the official one.

Why did Google wait so long? Vanced was hoe many years long? It was absolutely about the NFT thing.

I'm a 23 year old software engineer, and though I want to do this so badly, I struggle with the logistics of having a steady income throughout.

Is the move just to get a remote job in the US and work overnight across the world? Try to get a SWE job in every new country I go to?

Anyone have any advice?

Remote to the US from South America is my goal. Same time zone (pretty much), less natural disasters and pleasant weather.

What others tools do you have setup on your LAN? Curious of the possibilities with this

Nothing too crazy but makes my work flow easy to swap between locations. I got VSCode server, PHPMyAdmin, Transmission (Web based torrent client), DIY Youtube downloader client, DIY video editor, A bunch of service managers, and a couple more things.

It's basically a whole developer suite with remote processing. I could do AI training on my cellphone with this setup if I wanted.

I've been working on a DIY spotify clone for a media player.

It makes it really convenient having all my files on a central server, so I'm not juggling drives, and copying over data.

As well, it's automatically backed up weekly so it's always safe.

Works well for someone always on the go :)

Genuinely curious - could you elaborate on why that is so unacceptable? What does requiring authentication imply, or lead to in the future?

Prevents sharing with friends who don't have a Google account. It breaks what could be a general purpose sharing mechanism.

I really hope the self-hosted option becomes a thing, but unfortunately "we are not averse to the idea" means especially little in the tech world these days.

That being said, really really hoping for your success! It finally fills a MUCH needed gap in 2021 consumer image viewing software.

There are many many gaps in it right now. Synology is basically the only self-hosted photo solution that grandma could use. Honestly surprised that more people aren't taking advantage of the opportunity.

Very surprised no one has mentioned Synology yet. This has been done. And it's awesome!

I currently have a self-hosted google photos clone and I only paid for the hardware. Highly recommend.

Synology's Moments is ok, but it has issues. Not mobile friendly at all, can only create one shareable link per album, and others can't contribute their pictures to your album. Those are the biggest issues in my experience.
