It should be highlighted that Gitlab CI/CD (self-hostable runner and GitLab itself) is also OSS.

to add to this, under German law they very much are different in regards to mandatory military service. Neither the old nor the new laws contain mandatory military service for women leading to mandatory conscription being only an issue for men.

No, that is the equivalent of lossy compression.

Regardless of the damage in Ukraine, rebuilding the damage in the Gaza strip will take decades not years. Rebuilding a single city alone will take years to decades, recovering the economy et al will take a lot longer. Outside help can accelerate this but rebuilding & fixing after a war is generally not fast.

SBOMs exist. You can get them generated for most software via package managers in standard forms like cyclonedx.

It's just not that effective when the SBOM becomes unmanageable. For example, our JS project at $work has 2.3k dependencies just from npm. I can give you that SBOM (and even include the system deps with nix) but that won't really help you.

They are only really effective when the size is reasonable.

> TikTok [..] had no competitors and network effects

TikTok, or rather ByteDance, acquired Musical.ly as a competitor to absorb the user base and jump start their network. Their also have been a lot of short-form video platforms before (e. G., Vine) and during TikToks growth (Instagram reels, YT Shorts).

> Why should users have a problem with this? They use Google --- which does pretty much the same ... or worse.

Not to excessively defend Google, who have their own problems, but they don't appear to do anything of that sort on chromeos or android.

They might monetize your data but their methods differ a lot here. For example, using Android without a Google account is supported. (ChromeOS doesn't support it tbf)

Google is basically killing side loading for all practical purposes. I get your point but the race for the bottom should be televised.

They might monetize your data but their methods differ a lot here.

Yes. Different methods, same result.

For example, using Android without a Google account is supported.

Check out "Android System Key Verifier". Again, different methods, same result.

They're both using your hardware and bandwidth for their benefit.

> using Android without a Google account is supported

I predict it's just a matter of time until it wont be

I predict they won't require one --- because they don't need to.

They have all the hooks into the system they need to fully compromise your privacy with the latest Android.

> i use it because i know how to fix it, but linux desktop needs a proper recovery system for normal users to handle that kind of problem.

We kinda already have that for most immutable distros. Fedora silverblue can "downgrade" to an older Fedora version by booting into an older version. This is not foolproof (you can mess up the btrfs volumes) but it will cover most cases of update induced errors and broken versions.

The only other non-immutable distro with a recovery partition is PopOS, though immutable distros seem like the better option here.

At least for Berlin I can attest that helicopters, outside of the yellow ones for emergency care, are a very rare occurrence. I have yet so see a police helicopter outside of a large demonstration.

They're used in Berlin, though they're surprisingly quiet compared to the emergency care ones. Maybe flying higher? Here's their POV:

Unsurprisingly, the comments are mostly making fun of them for wasting tax money on hunting down some guys with spray bottles.

I'm surprised you seem to presume that WhatsApp, Discord etc. wouldn't immediately fill the gap.

At least in Berlin (School and Uni) my experience was that WhatsApp was far more prevalent already (due to more mixed Android/iOS environment likely).

If all the "mean girls" are on iMessage, then being on Android is insulating.

yes. Android is "broke broke", so the cool kids won't use it
