Well it’s as close to executable pseudocode as it gets, which I would say is both a positive and a negative.

Well A19 Pro beats M1 in benchmarks so while the rumored MacBook might be weaker than mid to high-end iPads, it won’t be a slow machine in general.

Do you think this could be facilitated via ActivityPub or is that not a viable choice?

I think something like the matrix protocol would be better. I would be especially interested in not storing unencrypted user messages. Matrix would be a good choice for this.

> I think there is a fundamental misconception that people think because "Islamic Republic" has the word "Republic" in it, it must be a government of people in charge. That's not the case. I have yet to see anyone who actually supports Russian aggression in my real life in Iran.

I’m really curious how this affects the consumer GPU market over the next few years. Sure, there has been a GPU shortage for a few years now but if this continues, there should be an absolute surplus of obsolete-gen enterprise GPUs flooding the market, right? Any ideas what limitations and benefits these cards might have for an enthusiast?

I feel like we're lucky Nvidia even sells consumer GPUs any more. At this point it's just a distraction to them and takes away resources they could be devoting to higher value hardware.

And the data center-class hardware doesn't do well in a home environment. It's not good for gaming. It runs hot and uses a ton of energy. Not to mention, silicon that is running hot 24/7 for years probably isn't the best thing to own second hand.

probably explains why we have "just rent H100 in the cloud, duh" influencers under every hardware building post on hn now

These systems aren’t easily converted into desktop style GPU’s, so it may not trickle down the way we hope

I assume surplus DGX A100 are already out there but they consume kilowatts so enthusiasts can't even plug them in.

I’m surprised they allow ads (sponsor segments) they get no cut from at all.

Sponsorships are the primary way YouTube creators make money. There aren't many things that could knock YouTube off its near-monopoly market position, but banning sponsorships is definitely one. Creators would revolt.

They pretty surely would not.

Creators are already starting to build their own platforms for hosting videos and many of these are quite successful unlike prior iterations from 10 years ago.

Do you have some examples? I am still a bit sore from my adventures as a creator on Viddler and Dailymotion.

I would point to platforms like Curiosity Stream and Nebula, which are creator driven. Though I would not exactly call them Youtube replacements, as they are more just platforms designed for supporting specific creators more directly (akin to Patreon). These platforms are often advertised as in-video sponsorships, so going back to the original point, I do think creators would be very vocal if such ads were banned.

Kick is one that's been poaching big names lately. I've also seen people starting to stream on X and Rumble.

They wouldn't have a choice, your average big youtube channel earns 95% of their revenue from sponsorship.

It would either be trying a revolt or stop youtube.

Why would they not allow them?

Important thing to note with AirPods is that it’s not just the batteries that deteriorate. All of the membranes and meshes and everything lives in a constant chaos of heat/cold, grease, shocks from being dropped, etc. If you get a new pair of AirPods Pro after two years they sound significantly better than the old pair. I’m on my third pair and I never once bought a new one because of battery life/failure.

They also pulled a bait-and-switch with Linux on PS3...

No doubt.

I was referring more to their variety of electronics in so many areas.

fixed

now that its fixed ive been kind.

whoever wrote the article thinks its onerous to search and upload in morse code but :

im sure thiscould be accomplished with a custom[morse] "language" imported to a browser.
