IMO this submission could use a better title to highlight the current issue, which according to the link is that the sole dev of the Pegasus email client sunk a lot of time into supporting Oauth on Gmail (required this year) only to discover that Google will require a security assessment every year at the dev's expense, which isn't workable for this long-time, free program.
I don't know if this requirement was easily discoverable beforehand.
