The problem with society is that people are willing to sacrifice the good of others in order to gain something for themselves. They also tend to lie to themselves and/or are oblivious to it. The problem is within us; better intelligence will just let us do it with more sophistication, or perhaps on a larger scale. One of the main force within society pushing against having all our arrows point inwards is religion, which these days isn't even in consideration for membership in the set of useful things.
I personally think that more intelligence might make the need for personal gratification go away. I mean, to start with the ideas is that humans will be completely and utterly redundant, the AI will be better than us at everything, what happens to the ego in this situation?
What happens if the cost of things is reduced to next to nothing due to efficiency gains from super intelligent systems?
