Why not? Surely it would feel better giving up the money knowing that everyone as wealthy as him had to give up the same amount. At a certain level, wealth is mostly used for comparative purposes anyway, so even less of the utility of his money would be lost in that situation.
On top of that, the impact of one wealthy person giving up some of their money is minor, but when you combine all wealthy people, the effect would be dramatic.
